One dead, two injured in Anambra road accident

Anambra Road Accident: “1 Dead, 2 Injured”. An articulated truck collided with pedestrians on the Onitsha-Asaba bridgehead, resulting in the death of an unidentified woman and injuries to two others.

As reported by TURO247NEWZ, the incident occurred on Thursday, with brake failure cited as the cause of the crash.

A bystander described how the truck’s brakes failed as it descended the River Niger bridge toward Asaba, causing the driver to lose control and hit pedestrians on the roadside.

C. A Iyiegbuniwe, the Staff Officer for Public Education at the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, confirmed the accident in a statement.

Iyiegbuniwe stated, “The accident happened today, April 4, 2024, around 3:20hrs along Onitsha-Asaba Bridgehead.”

“The truck experienced brake failure and collided with pedestrians. Two individuals sustained injuries while one woman lost her life.”

“After arriving at the scene, FRSC personnel transported the injured to Toronto Hospital, Onitsha, while the deceased were taken to Toronto Mortuary.”

Iyiegbuniwe added that Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander RS5.3 Awka, expressed sympathy for the victims’ families.

He also emphasized the importance for motorists to regularly maintain their vehicles and adhere to traffic regulations.
