Fatal Lagos Road Crash: One Dead, Another Injured. In Ketu, along the Mile 12- Ikorodu Expressway of Lagos State, a yet-to-be-identified male pedestrian lost his life due to a speeding driver in the early hours of Tuesday.

Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, confirmed the incident.

Taofiq mentioned that the tragic accident occurred around 6:45 am.

Initial investigations showed that a fully loaded Inter-State Toyota Hiase commercial bus (NSW 216 XA), carrying pepper and other perishable goods, lost control at high speed due to brake failure. It collided with two other commercial Volkswagen buses, resulting in the death of a pedestrian waiting to board a bus at Ketu Bus Stop by Demurin Junction along Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

The statement further revealed that LASTMA personnel rescued a trapped female passenger from one of the Volkswagen commercial buses and handed her over to officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

Upon the accident, LASTMA personnel immediately apprehended the commercial bus driver, with security backup provided by officers from Alapere Police Station.

Olawaye Olugbenga, Head of Zone 32 Ketu at LASTMA, confirmed that his team swiftly evacuated all commercial buses involved in the multiple accidents to ensure unhindered vehicular movement inward Kosofe, Mile 12 area.

LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged pedestrians to use government-designated bus stops when boarding commercial buses. He also cautioned both commercial and private car drivers against overspeeding and emphasized the importance of properly checking their vehicles, including the braking system, before embarking on any journey within or outside Lagos.
