The communiqué, signed by Linus Okorie and Emmanuel Ezeh of the Ebonyi South and North Senatorial Zones, and endorsed by Emmanuel Nwobo of the Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone, emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation within the party. The meeting aimed to gather support for the upcoming National Convention and state congress, crucial events for electing new party leaders.

According to Punch, the communiqué stated, “Members of the NTC of the Party, Chief Fidelis Nwankwo, Okorie, and Ezeh, convened an expanded stakeholders briefing to inform the party’s state chapter about future political activities. This includes mobilizing new members and registration drives.”

  1. Leadership Endorsement: Mr. Peter Obi remains the National Leader of the Labour Party. Stakeholders believe Obi has the competencies needed to revive Nigeria’s economy.
  2. Support for NTC: There is a strong push to support the National Transition Committee in conducting inclusive state congresses and national conventions.
  3. Unity and Growth: A united Labour Party aims to recruit and register 400,000 new members, bolstering the party’s strength at a crucial time.

Stakeholder Actions and Decisions

Chief Jerry Obasi, former Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and 2015 deputy governorship candidate, moved a motion to adopt Chief Fidelis Nwankwo as the state party leader. This motion was seconded by Mr. Sylvester Nwankwo, a former House of Assembly member. The stakeholders unanimously endorsed Nwankwo, solidifying his leadership role in the state party.
