Chelsea’s Osimhen Deal: Nearing Personal Terms Amidst FFP Strategy

Reports from suggest that Chelsea is considering activating Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s release clause, despite concerns about violating the English Premier League’s financial rules.

Osimhen, formerly of LOSC Lille, moved to Napoli for around €75 million and has since impressed, potentially raising his market value to €120-€130 million.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti indicates that Osimhen is interested in joining Stamford Bridge, as per Caughtoffside.

Adding Osimhen to the team could greatly enhance Chelsea’s attacking options, which have struggled recently despite significant investment in the squad last summer.

However, there are lingering worries about Financial Fair Play regulations and whether Chelsea will need to offload players before completing a deal for Osimhen.

How can Chelsea ease FFP worries?

To address these concerns, Chelsea will need to carefully manage their financial situation. The club is expected to release their financial reports for the 2022/23 season soon, and it’s anticipated that they might fall short of the Profit and Sustainability threshold by £37m.

While this suggests a level of financial stability, there are potential hurdles ahead, especially in the 2023/24 season. Consequently, Chelsea’s transfer dealings leading up to the end of June, marking the financial year’s closure, could be influenced by their ability to earn revenue through player transfers.

Conor Gallagher has been frequently rumored to be leaving Stamford Bridge, with clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur reportedly showing interest and a transfer fee of around £50m mentioned.

Offloading academy graduates like Gallagher can significantly bolster Chelsea’s finances since these players come at no transfer cost, resulting in pure profit for the club.

Apart from Gallagher, Chelsea might have to part with two to three more players to secure the signing of Osimhen without risking their financial health.
